What is a Parent University?
Parent University is a program through which parents are offered a space to connect with community resources, engage in adult education, and become empowered to actively participate in their child’s education. The goal of Parent University is to empower parents with knowledge and skills, fostering a strong partnership between home and school and ultimately enhancing student success.
How Does Parent University Work?
Parent University is a series of sessions offered to caregivers in Waco ISD. These sessions are supported by a collaboration between Transformation Waco and Grassroots Community Development. Parent University sessions are grouped into a series of three consecutive events. Events within each series share a theme and a location, but each session consists of unique material and community resource connections.
All are welcome to participate; classes are free, and childcare is offered at each session. Participants who attend six or more sessions throughout the year will be invited to a graduation ceremony, where they will celebrate with their fellow graduates and receive a graduation certificate. We’re excited to meet you at the next Parent University session!
